Two people are dead and three others injured in a road accident along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway at Kiongwani area, Makueni County.
Reports indicate that the crash involved a pickup truck transporting avocados towards Nairobi and a fuel tanker heading in the opposite direction.
According to nearby sources, the two vehicles collided head-on, killing two passengers who were in the pickup truck on the spot.
According to the report, the tanker and pickup drivers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the Ultan Hamud Sub-County Hospital before being referred to Makindu Level 5 Hospital for further treatment.
It is also reported that on the same morning, heavy traffic was witnessed along the busy Nairobi-Mombasa road after a road accident in the Maungu area, Taita Taveta County.
Reports indicate that the tanker rolled over and blocked part of the road.
The canter was therefore pushed onto the wrong side of the road, which might be because the driver was overtaking another vehicle when the incident happened.
