Governor Barasa Calls Out Senator Khalwale After Launching a Toilet in Kakamega

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has recently slammed Senator Boni Khalwale after he launched a toilet in Kakamega town.

According to Barasa, the role of a senator is to defend devolution and ensure resources are allocated to counties and not to launch toilets.

“The role of a senator is not to go and open toilets. Yesterday I saw our senator, Khalwale, going to town saying he is there to unveil a toilet. The role of a senator is to defend devolution. Mr. Khalwale, go to the Senate and advocate for funds to come to the county. Do not go and open toilets when you don’t even know who built them,” said Governor Barasa.

His remarks came after Senator Khalwale presided over the opening of the Muliro Gardens Ico-toilet in Kakamega town.

Speaking at the launch, Khalwale accused the county boss of attempting to snatch the facility from people living with disabilities in Kakamega and give it to his relatives.

The Senator noted that the High Court issued an order for the toilet to be opened, and Barasa moved to the Court of Appeal, but his petition to halt the launch of the facility was declined.

“I have a High Court order, but he (Fernandes Barasa) went to the Court of Appeal to ask for the High Court order to be overturned. But God is there, the Court of Appeal understood that matters concerning toilets are urgent,” Khalwale remarked.
