MPs Umulkheir Harun, Falhada Iman Apologise Over Embarassing Parliament Brawl

Chaos escalated in Parliament on Tuesday, April 7, 2025, between two female Members of Parliament.

In a video that circulated on social media platforms, the two lawmakers identified as Umlkheir Harun of ODM and Falhada Iman of UDA were seen engaging in a physical altercation as others in the background cheered them up.

They were separated by the sergeant-at-arms, but even after the separation, they seemed to be insulting one another.

This raised a lot of concerns among the public who felt that the two lawmakers did not act right being leaders in the country.

Responding to the matter, MP Umulkheir apologized for the incident, stating that she deeply regretted her actions both as a Member of Parliament and as a mother.

“I sincerely regret this occurrence and want to emphasize that I do not endorse or encourage any form of misconduct. While I am not providing further comments at this time, I remain fully committed to upholding the respectful and dignified standards expected of our institution and myself, particularly as a muslim woman,” she stated.

“The political landscape is inherently challenging, but there is never justification for behavior that undermines the integrity of our work. I hope that together we can foster a more respectful and constructive environment moving forward,” the MP added.

Her counterpart Falhada also apologized for the physical altercation on her social media account X.

“What transpired was undeniably beneath the dignity of the institution we serve, and the trust bestowed upon us by the Kenyan people. For this, I offer my unreserved apologies”, she wrote.

Falhada added that she tried to control herself during the physical confrontation, but the situation escalated beyond control.

“To the public who witnessed this unsettling spectacle via social media, I apologize for failing to exemplify the composure and maturity you rightfully expect from your representatives. I vow to reflect deeply, learn from this lapse and rededicate myself to the principles of civility and professionalism,” she further stated.
