CS Murkomen Orders Arrest of Politicians Sponsoring Youths to Engage in Criminal Activities

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced plans to crack down on and prosecute politicians suspected of sponsoring criminal gangs across the country.

Murkomen issued the new directives on Tuesday, April 8, during a community engagement forum in Kwale County.

He warned that the government would no longer tolerate insecurity, which he claims is mainly sponsored by political elements.

According to Murkomen, organised gangs on the coast, such as the “Panga Boys,” composed of youth of school-going age, were being used by powerful individuals to further specific political agendas.

“While I appreciate the cooperation of local leaders who are working closely with security agencies to curb crime, it is regrettable that some politicians are sabotaging these efforts by bankrolling criminal groups,” said Murkomen.

Murkomen moreover revealed the government would be undertaking a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach to tackle insecurity going forward.

The directive comes days after goons attacked a church service in Kasarani where former DP Rigathi Gachagua was attending.

During the church service at the PCEA church in Mwiki, goons attempted to infiltrate the church to demand money from the former DP, prompting his security detail to fire in the air to disperse them.

Gachagua has since claimed the incident was politically motivated.
