Two Members of parliament engaged in a tangle in the National Assembly on Tuesday, April 10, 2025.
ODM-nominated MP Umulkher Harun Mohammed and Falhada Iman of EALA (UDA) engaged in a heated argument that led them into a physical confrontation.
During the confrontation, some voices in the background appeared to be cheering them on, encouraging them to continue with the fight.
After a while, the Sergeant-at-Arms intervened and tried to separate the two when the leaders attempted to assist in calming the lawmakers, who now started exchanging insults, allowing their emotions to pass them.
The public was fully disappointed by the situation and expressed their grievances.
Umulkher later apologized about the incident on her social media platform X.
“Today, an unfortunate incident occurred on the parliamentary grounds, a situation I deeply regret both as a Member of Parliament and as a mother. My colleague from the EALA, who has expressed longstanding differences with my work, acted in a manner that I find unacceptable. She came to parliament with the sole intention of attacking me, and the incident blindsided me, leaving me questioning the reasons behind the ambush,” she wrote.
The ODM MP added that she deeply regrets the incident and remains fully committed to upholding the respectful and dignified standards of herself as a Muslim woman.
Her counterpart has yet to comment about what transpired in the National Assembly.
