The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has issued fresh regulations against churches, companies and clubs that promote noise pollution.
The team led by NEMA Director compliance, Dr. Ayub crackdown was initiated by the survey conducted in Ruiru, Kiambu County targeting places of worship and entertainment hubs.
The survey followed persistent complaints from residents close to the noise facilities.
After inspecting the companies, NEMA issued them with either restoration orders or improvement notice.
NEMA further issued clear instructions on anyone who will violate the noise pollution rule.
According stated that anybody found practicing noise pollution will be compelled to either immediately stop any operations or generate noise pollution.
Depending on the type of noise pollution, the company will undertake Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) with adequate public participation.
If the facility has an EIA license, it will attract prosecution for violation of the EIA license conditions regarding noise pollution.
NEMA is already partnering with the Nairobi County government which on all matatus as al matatus will be required to mute their music.
All businesses with loudspeakers such as electronic shops will also be required to remove them.
“This also included premises that have loudspeakers with pre-recorded messages calling on clients. We want the town to be quiet. We want to restore order” Geofrey Mosiria told Kenyans.co.ke.
