Fake DCI Arrested for Offering Tape-Lifting Services on Kiambu Road

Menace Otieno Ayata has been charged with impersonating himself as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) forensics expert and offering tape-lifting services at Kiambu road’s Ridgeways center.

The incident occurred on February 13th, 2025.

The reportee had just gifted himself a valentine gift who inquired from the sellers where he could get the service.

He was recommended to Ayata with directions that he worked with the DCI Headquarters.

But after arriving at the entrance, Ayata was unreachable which prompted him to sough for guidance form the security personnel who directed him to the forensic lab but on arrival there was no trace or knowledge of Ayata working as a DCI officer.

“After several missed calls, the reportee approached a CSI officer who happened to be examining a client’s vehicle at the parking yard. Coincidentally the officer was offering a tape-lift service. Taking to himself to find out who Menace Ayata was, the officer made numerous calls but one in the department or within the headquarters ever heard of him” the DCI stated.

“But as fate would have it, Ayata , who happened to have stepped away from his phone, called back, right on cue for a showdown with real hackshaw. The car owner pretended to still be interested in the service” the DCI added.

Moments before Ayata could do anything, the police officer arrested him and conducted research which they recovered 19 vehicle logbooks, 35 tape-lift reports, assorted driving licenses and National Identification from Ayata.

He was presented before the Kahawa Law Courts where he was released on Ksh.500,000 bond with an alternative cashbail of Ksh.100,000.
