Six people have died following an early morning road accident on the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway after a bus they were travelling in was involved in a head-on collision with a trailer.
Reports indicate that the crash occurred in the Manyatta area of Taita Taveta County when a PSV bus operated by Chania Sacco reportedly lost control shortly before colliding with the trailer along the busy highway.
Witnesses said the driver of the Chania Executive bus was attempting to overtake when the truck struck the vehicle, badly damaging its right side before the bus veered off the road.

Police officers and emergency responders later arrived at the scene, where they coordinated rescue operations to assist passengers and secure the accident site.
The injured passengers were rushed to Moi County Referral Hospital Voi for treatment as authorities launched investigations into the accident.
The impact of the crash left the bus extensively damaged, with all six victims who were seated on the driver’s side losing their lives.
Recently, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has urged motorists to exercise extra caution on the roads during the ongoing rainy season, which is often linked to a rise in road accidents.
The authority advised road users to observe key safety measures, including reducing speed, maintaining a safe distance between vehicles, avoiding overtaking during heavy rain or fog, and steering clear of flooded sections of the road.
Motorcyclists and cyclists were also encouraged to wear reflective gear to enhance visibility, while pedestrians were warned against walking too close to fast-moving traffic during heavy rainfall.
