5 in Custody as DCI Probes Kidnapping Incident in Ruaka

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have apprehended five suspects in connection with a kidnapping incident in Ruaka.

In a statement issued on Friday, September 19, DCI noted that detectives launched the operations after the victim’s girlfriend raised an alarm.

According to detectives, the victim’s girlfriend’s call to his boyfriend was answered by an unidentified voice that demanded a ransom of Ksh500,000 for his safe release.

Following intelligence leads, the DCI detectives trailed the suspects to Ithanga, where they rescued the victim, who was found with multiple injuries and wearing a blood-stained shirt.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested five suspects linked to a kidnapping incident in Ruaka. 

The suspects, identified as Sydney Ezra Achanda, John Louise Omondi, Enock Sum Cheruyot, Peter Kanini Mwangi, and Lucy Sara Muhonja, were apprehended near Quick Mart Thindigua.

During the operation, the sleuths impounded two getaway vehicles believed to have been used in the crime—a Suzuki Swift (registration number KDD 841D) and a Mazda Demio (registration number KDP 468Y).

A kitchen knife, ten assorted mobile phones, a tablet, and other items were also recovered from the vehicles.

Investigations revealed that the suspects had already collected a ransom of Ksh68,000 before their arrest. 

The five are currently in custody undergoing processing and will be arraigned in court.
