At least four people, including three pupils, have been confirmed dead after a road accident in the Kibuon area of Nyakach, along the Sondu-Katito highway.
According to reports, the accident, which occurred on Wednesday morning, took place after a 14-seater matatu lost control and rammed into an oncoming truck that was ferrying sugarcane.
The residents, who were on high alert, quickly rushed to the scene and began retrieving those trapped under the wreckage before they were rushed to the Nyabondo Hospital.

During the accident, several people were injured, including pupils from Ober Boys Primary School, who were heading to school when the matatu collided with the truck.
The matatu was extensively damaged, with a broken windscreen, seats, and windows, while the truck remained intact with minimal damage.
The area traffic police officers have since arrived at the scene, with investigations ongoing into the tragedy.
The accident resulted in a huge traffic snarl-up along the busy road, forcing motorists to seek alternative routes as police attempted to clear the road.
The accident comes just days after seven people died in a separate road crash along the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu highway in Nakuru County.
The crash, which occurred on Sunday evening, happened when a private car attempted to overtake another vehicle and suddenly rammed into a trailer.
