3 Suspects Arrested Over Highway Crime Spree

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have arrested three suspected members of a highway gang accused of terrorising motorists.

In a statement on Monday, January 18, detectives from Rabai Sub-County confirmed that the suspects were apprehended following a targeted operation in the Mbarikani area after receiving a tip-off from members of the public.

The suspects are believed to be part of a notorious gang that has been targeting motorists, particularly truck drivers, along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

Investigators noted that the arrest was aimed at curbing rising cases of highway robbery in the area.

During the raid, officers seized several items believed to be connected to the gang’s criminal operations, among them foreign currency, two pairs of military boots, 14 rolls of bhang, 32 pieces of mug glass, mobile phone chargers, two bales of carrier bags and an HCL computer keyboard.

Police said the recovered items have been linked to multiple robbery cases reported at a nearby police station, further implicating the suspects in a series of highway crimes.

Investigators allege the three are part of a wider criminal network responsible for attacks near the Bonje area in Mazeras township, where truck drivers have been frequent targets.

The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, with the recovered items secured as potential court exhibits ahead of their arraignment.
