Two suspected gang members were shot dead on the night of September 30 during a foiled robbery in Yala town, Gem-Yala sub-county.
The incident unfolded after a confrontation in which a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer was also injured. Police reported that the suspects had stormed a shop at around 10 p.m., targeting a female shopkeeper.
However, the woman raised an alarm, alerting DCI officers on patrol from Yala Police Station, who quickly responded to the scene.

According to Gem-Yala Sub-County Police Commander Charles Wafula, it was during the ensuing exchange that the suspects were fatally gunned down.
Wafula explained that the suspects attempted to flee by attacking a DCI officer with a metal rod. In the scuffle, the officer opened fire in self-defence, instantly killing both men.
The injured officer was later admitted to Yala Sub-County Hospital, while the bodies of the suspects were taken to the facility’s mortuary.
The incident comes amid a spate of robbery cases reported across the country.
On September 18, in Maralal, armed robbers posing as customers stormed a shop, shooting and injuring the shopkeeper before making away with Ksh 50,000.
DCI confirmed that one of the suspects was later arrested in connection with the crime.
