Fresh tensions have emerged within Kenya’s Broad-based government following a strong statement by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) addressing its coalition partner, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), over ongoing zoning discussions.
On Thursday, April 16, ODM called for mutual respect within the partnership, raising concerns about remarks allegedly made by a section of UDA leaders.
Speaking during a press briefing led by party leader Oburu Odinga, the party accused some members of the ruling side of making statements aimed at undermining ODM.

The ODM Central Committee noted that the comments were inappropriate and risked straining relations within the coalition.
It further observed that such utterances had created anxiety among party members and could disrupt the working relationship between the two sides.
Deputy Secretary General Catherine Omanyo, while outlining the committee’s position, maintained that the statements were unnecessary and could destabilize the unity of the Broad-based government.
She stressed the importance of maintaining respect and cooperation among partners.
Moreover the party reiterated its resolve to strengthen the party’s popularity across the country, particularly in its traditional strongholds, as it gears up for the 2027 elections.
The party signaled an aggressive push to expand its support base and solidify its identity among Kenyans.
Omanyo assured aspirants that ODM nominations would be free and fair, while also unveiling a nationwide mobilization plan targeting young voters.
