Renown journalist Yvonne Okwara has exited Citizen TV and Royal Media Services after eight and a half year stint in her career at the media station.
The veteran journalist announced her exit on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, during her final broadcast of The Explainer, an every-Tuesday 9 pm bulletin.
During the announcement, Okwara said the decision marked her departure from journalism after nearly 20 years at various media outlets in Kenya.
Additionally, she thanked viewers and colleagues for the support and opportunities they have given her throughout her career.
“When I walked through these doors, I was young, fresh from university. I still feel the same way. But allow me tonight a little indulgence, because this is my final final word. The very place I started my career in journalism is the same place I get to wrap things up,” Okwara said.
“So, I am not done building. I’m simply moving to build something else. And to you, I urge: keep asking the right questions, keep demanding better, keep holding power to account, and keep believing that this country is worth fighting for,” she added
However, she did not reveal her next move; instead, Okwara announced she was preparing to begin a new chapter of her life.
