Kenyan gospel duo Wapendwa Muziki Nina and Mesh have explained why they use Artificial Intelligence (AI) in their music production.
This comes after facing backlash over their admission that they use Suno AI to create song demos.
The couple clarified that they do not rely on AI to write their songs, insisting that their music is inspired by the Bible, their faith and personal creativity.
In the explanation, Mesh said they use Suno AI to develop demos from lyrics and musical ideas they have already created, which they then take to their music producer as a guide.

Additionally, he explained that before using the AI tool, they would record musical ideas on their phones whenever inspiration struck, especially when they were away from the studio.
However, the method sometimes came with challenges, including forgetting to rename recordings or save them with identifiable titles.
According to Mesh, Suno AI has helped them address some of these challenges by allowing them to develop their ideas into demos that can be shared with producers.
The two first comes up with the song, writes the lyrics and determines its progression before using Suno AI to generate a demo.
He further noted that they guide the tool on the melody, duration and speed they want, meaning they remain involved in shaping how the final song should sound.
