Wandayi Addresses Concerns Over Fuel Availability

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has affirmed Kenyans that petroleum supplies will remain uninterrupted despite continued instability in the Middle East.

According to Wandayi, the government has been monitoring developments in the region while maintaining measures to secure the country’s fuel supply.

“We continue to monitor the situation as it evolves in the Middle East specifically, but we can assure the public with certainty that the supply of petroleum products will continue uninterrupted going forward,” he said.

Additionally, he attributed that steady availability of petroleum products since the conflict between the United States and Iran began in February to Kenya’s government-to-government (G-to-G) fuel importation arrangement.

Wandayi noted that, under the framework, international oil suppliers are able to obtain petroleum products from multiple refineries worldwide, helping maintain deliveries despite disruptions in some markets.

The CS also acknowledged that sourcing fuel over longer distances can increase costs but maintained that securing adequate supplies remained the immediate priority.
