Former Kanduyi Member of Parliament Wafula Wamunyinyi has announced his exit from the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) to join Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement.
In a statement issued on Tuesday night, October 20, Wamunyinyi revealed that he had stepped down as DAP-K Deputy Party Leader following extensive reflection and consultations with members of the public.
The former lawmaker explained that his decision to join the movement was driven by Sifuna’s political message, which he believes addresses the concerns of ordinary Kenyans, including small-scale traders, boda boda operators, unemployed youth and farmers.

Wamunyinyi described Linda Mwananchi as a platform that prioritises the needs of ordinary citizens rather than political and business elites.
He also disclosed that he had reached out to DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa to encourage him to rally behind Sifuna and support the movement.
The former MP maintained that opposition leaders needed to unite ahead of the 2027 General Election to avoid splitting their support and weakening their chances against their political opponents.
Wamunyinyi clarified that his departure from DAP-K was not driven by disagreements or hostility towards the party leadership. Instead, he called for cooperation among opposition leaders, arguing that political divisions could undermine efforts to address the challenges facing ordinary Kenyans.
His decision marks a new political alignment for the former Kanduyi legislator as Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement continues to attract figures advocating for a united opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
