Vincent Aboubakar Scores Twice in the Cameroon 3-1 Libya Victory

Cameroon bounced back from a disappointing result earlier in the international break by defeating Libya 3-1 on Tuesday in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match held in Yaoundé.

Captain Vincent Aboubakar scored twice, while Bryan Mbeumo contributed one goal and one assist for the Indomitable Lions, bringing them to within a point of Group D leaders Cape Verde.

The hosts started strong in the first half, opening the scoring in the 27th minute when Aboubakar was awarded a penalty kick and successfully converted it.

After halftime, Mbeumo showcased his quality early in the second half. He received a pass from Carlos Baleba in midfield and drove down the right wing, cutting inside to deliver an excellent low shot with his left foot.

Just eight minutes later, Aboubakar extended Cameroon’s lead, capitalizing on Mbeumo’s impressive dribbling on the right wing. Mbeumo crossed the ball low to Aboubakar, who calmly finished with the side of his foot.

Libya managed to score a late goal just before stoppage time, serving as a consolation and reminding everyone that it was not a completely flawless week for the Cameroonian team.

Despite a convincing performance, Cameroon’s earlier 0-0 draw against last-placed Eswatini prevented them from taking the lead in their group.
