US Embassy Nairobi To Close On Monday For Martin Luther King Jr.Day

The United States (US) embassy Nairobi will be closed on Monday January 20th, 2025.

The Embassy announced on their X account formerly known as twitter on Friday 17th January 2025.

The embassy will be closed on Monday, January 20th, 2025, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. 

The U.S Embassy Nairobi stated.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Day officially his birthday is a federal holiday in the United States observed on the third Monday of January each year.

The earliest Monday for the holiday is January 15 and the latest is January 21.

The campaign for a Federal holiday in King Martin\’s honor began soon after his assassination in 1968 and was observed three years later on January 20th, 1986.

Kenyans seeking services from the embassy on that day will have to wait till Tuesday.

This will mark the second time in January 2025 that the embassy has closed on weekday due to an American observance.

The first observance was for the mourning of the late Former US President Jimmy Carter who died at the age of 100.
