United Strengthen Goalkeeping Ranks with Darlow

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of experienced Welsh goalkeeper Karl Darlow on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract at Leeds United, with the 35-year-old becoming the club’s latest addition under head coach Michael Carrick.

Darlow has signed a two-year contract at Old Trafford and arrives to add experience and depth to United’s goalkeeping department ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

The former Newcastle United and Leeds United shot-stopper brings nearly 300 senior appearances, including extensive Premier League experience.

Speaking after completing the move, Darlow described the transfer as a dream come true and said he is proud to join one of the biggest clubs in world football.

“I am extremely proud to sign for Manchester United. This is a really special opportunity. Everyone can see what an exciting time it is for the club and I can’t wait to play my part in supporting my teammates and helping to drive the group forwards,” Darlow said.

Manchester United’s Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, welcomed the signing, praising the goalkeeper’s professionalism, leadership and experience. Wilcox said Darlow’s mentality and quality would strengthen the squad as the club prepares for another demanding season in domestic and European competitions.

Darlow is expected to provide competition and cover in Carrick’s squad, joining a goalkeeping unit that United are keen to strengthen as they build a team capable of challenging for major honours.

The goalkeeper becomes Manchester United’s second signing in as many days, following the arrival of Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos, underlining the club’s intent to reinforce key areas before the new season begins.
