The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party has announced that it will conduct fresh grassroots elections in Tana River County next month following consultations with local leaders and stakeholders.
In a notice issued on Thursday, July 9, UDA National Elections Board (NEB) Chairperson Anthony Mwaura said the decision was reached after a consultative meeting with leaders from the county aimed at charting the way forward for the party’s grassroots leadership.
The fresh elections have been scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, and will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. across the county.

Mwaura said the registration portal for aspirants opened on Wednesday, July 8, at 4:00 p.m., and will remain open until Tuesday, July 28, at 5:00 p.m., giving interested candidates time to submit their applications.
Following the closure of registration, the party will conduct verification of aspirants between July 29 and July 31 before clearing candidates to participate in the elections.
The UDA official urged eligible party members and prospective aspirants to register and verify their details within the stipulated timelines to facilitate a smooth electoral process.
During the grassroots elections, party members will elect 20 officials at every polling centre.
These will include three representatives of farmers, four representatives of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), three professionals, four youth representatives, two general members, three religious representatives, and one representative of Special Interest Groups (SIGs).
The grassroots elections form part of UDA’s efforts to strengthen its internal leadership structures ahead of future political activities and ensure representation of various interest groups at the local level.
