The planned visit to Kenya by U.S. Vice President JD Vance has been cancelled due to the ongoing U.S. government shutdown.
Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi confirmed the development in a statement, noting that the decision followed a directive from President Donald Trump barring U.S. officials from attending the upcoming G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Consequently, Vance’s trip to Kenya originally scheduled to coincide with his visit to South Africa has been called off.

In a follow-up statement, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi assured that the cancellation of Vice President Vance’s trip would not affect the cordial relations between Kenya and the United States.
He emphasized that the two nations continue to enjoy strong cooperation in key sectors such as trade and investment, security, education, health, and diaspora engagement.
Vance’s trip would have been the first official visit to Kenya by a senior member of the U.S. Executive since President Donald Trump secured a second term in office.
