The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has nabbed two suspects accused of demanding money from a person whose matter is under investigation by the commission.
According to EACC, the suspects were arrested after allegedly claiming they had connections within EACC that could be used to influence the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
The duo allegedly demanded Ksh100,000 from the person, promising to use their alleged networks to have the investigation terminated.
However, the two were arrested after allegedly receiving Ksh30,000 as part of the money they had demanded.
The commission said the two are suspected to be part of a wider group of fraudsters operating in the Western region who either impersonate commission officials or falsely claim they can influence investigations.
The suspects were processed at its Western Regional Office before being booked at Bungoma Central Police Station.
The investigations are expected to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged extortion and whether other individuals were involved in the scheme.
