Truphena Muthoni Breaks World Record with 72-Hour Tree-Hug

22-year-old Truphena Muthoni has set a new world record by hugging a tree for 72 hours at the Nyeri County Governor’s office, completing the challenge on Thursday, December 11.

Her record-breaking attempt began on Tuesday, December 8, 2025, at 12:20 p.m., attracting attention from both Kenyans and international audiences who followed her progress throughout the demanding three-day challenge.

The achievement surpasses her previous record, set in February 2025 at Michuki Memorial Park in Nairobi, where she hugged a tree for 48 hours and 22 minutes non-stop.

Beyond the record itself, Muthoni’s attempt carried a wider message highlighting the importance of indigenous trees, indigenous communities, and inclusivity for people living with disabilities.

As part of the challenge, she included a three-hour blindfold session to raise awareness about visual impairment.

Governor Mutahi Kahiga, who oversaw the event, confirmed that medical evaluations would be conducted following the completion of the feat.

The Governor highlighted the healing power of tree hugging, saying it “cleanses” and can “purify” those who are unwell.

Muthoni’s record attempt received strong support from both organizations and individuals.

OdiBets contributed KSh 1 million, Adequate Safaris offered a three-night Mombasa stay, while Damaris of Dama Spares Original promised a Samsung Galaxy Fold 7 and Solomon Maina added KSh 100,000 for Guinness World Records fees.
