Traffic Officers Nabbed Along Nairobi-Embu Highway

Four traffic police officers were arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for allegedly extorting bribes along the Nairobi–Nyeri–Embu Highway.

In a statement on August 28, the EACC noted that the four solicited and received bribes from motorists and matatu operators along the busy highway.

According to the EACC, the arrests were made after intelligence reports and a covert operation targeting rogue officers.

EACC moreover confirmed that following the arrests, all four suspects were transferred to Nairobi for further action.

Notably, this comes months after a police officer attached to the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) was arrested after he was caught red-handed receiving a bribe of Ksh50,000.

The officer identified as Cleophas Kiptoo Koech was apprehended by EACC during a sting operation following a tip-off from a member of the public.

EACC explained that Koech had allegedly demanded the bribe as an inducement not to charge a woman with the offense of discharging effluent from a building.
