Tielemans Becomes United’s New Midfield General

Manchester United have officially completed the signing of Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa, with the experienced playmaker putting pen to paper on a five-year contract at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils activated the player’s £35 million release clause to secure his services as they continue strengthening Michael Carrick’s squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 29-year-old arrives after an impressive spell at Aston Villa, where he established himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent midfielders.

Tielemans also captained Belgium during their run to the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, further underlining his leadership qualities and vast experience at the highest level.

Speaking after signing his contract, Tielemans expressed his delight at joining the record English champions, describing the move as the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition.

“It’s hard to describe just how proud I am to join Manchester United. Signing for such a special club feels incredible. The ambition from everyone at the club is extremely clear, and we are all determined to compete for the biggest trophies over the coming years,” he said.

Manchester United Director of Football Jason Wilcox welcomed the Belgium international, praising his consistency, leadership and technical quality, adding that the midfielder’s experience in the Premier League will be invaluable as the club looks to challenge for major honours.

Tielemans becomes Manchester United’s fourth major signing of the summer transfer window after the arrivals of Andrey Santos, Karl Darlow, and the club’s earlier additions.

His arrival is expected to add creativity, composure and experience to Carrick’s midfield as United prepare for a campaign that includes Premier League and UEFA Champions League football.
