Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja has questioned Governor Kihika’s 1-year maternity leave.
In a press briefing, Karanja congratulated Kihika for the birth of her twins but affirmed that challenges affecting Nakuru extended beyond the one-year maternity leave.
“Our concern is not that our Governor, Susan Kihika, went to give birth. If that is true, we want to take this opportunity, on behalf of the Nakuru people, to congratulate her, and we are happy for her. We heard she had twins and would love to thank God on her behalf because that is a double blessing,” she said.
The Nakuru senator raised concern that instead of Kihika taking the stipulated three-month leave, she had been on maternity leave for the last year and has not followed the correct procedure of informing the people of Nakuru of her pregnancy and impending leave before departure.

“In short, the county government is at a stand still as we speak. Our other major concern is that we have serious issues left behind. Among then include the reopening of War Memorial Hospital, which the court ordered to be reopened last year, yet up to now, it has not been reopened,” Karanja added.
She further mentioned other major problems such as ECDE learning centres, feeding programmes, stadium, pending bills and failure to reach the intended target of Ksh10.9 billion in own revenue collection.
Karanja has now urged Members of the Nakuru County Assembly (MCAs) to impeach the governor or face protests by Nakuru residents whose 14-day notice has already lapsed.
