The order follows the approval by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) of murder charges against the four suspects after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) concluded preliminary investigations into Dr Mutiso’s death.

Dr Mutiso died on July 29, 2026. Before her death, she served as a psychiatrist and was the former Director of the African Institute of Mental and Brain Health.

The court further directed that Chris Mulwa and Police Constable Kibelion be remanded at Nairobi Remand Prison pending the next stage of the proceedings.

Mbithe and her daughter Angela will be held at Lang’ata Women’s Prison.

The matter will be mentioned before Justice Alexander Muteti on September 23, 2026, when the four suspects are expected to take plea after the completion of the mental assessment.
