A man has been apprehended and arraigned in court for allegedly sending an abusive message to Member of Parliament (MP) Mary Maingi via popular social media platform WhatsApp.
Mary Maingi is the first female MP in Mwea.
The Member of Parliament has been vocal about the challenges she faces in her political career.
The 34-year-old man identified as Joseph Muiruri Kamau was arraigned before the Wangúru Law Courts in Kirinyaga County for sending offensive messages to MP Maingi using his mobile phone on March 27, 2025.
The court heard that the suspect deliberately sent the message, knowing that the conduct was offensive and would affect the Mwea MP.
However, the suspect denied the charges and was granted a bond of Ksh. 100,000 or cash bail of Ksh. 30,000.
The case will be mentioned on April 28, 2025.
