At least 2,803 supporters have each contributed Ksh10 towards purchasing a suit for Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate in the Ol Kalou by-election, Sammy Kamau Ngotho.
In a statement on Tuesday, June 23, Nyandarua Senator John Methu said the fundraising initiative was inspired by remarks made by former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, who referred to Ngotho as a “chokoraa.”
According to Methu, the campaign attracted contributions from thousands of supporters, who said the suit would be used during Ngotho’s swearing-in should he win the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat.

The senator also noted that the initiative had boosted the candidate’s morale ahead of the July 16, 2026, by-election, describing the overwhelming public support as more significant than the amount of money raised.
Ngotho secured the DCP ticket for the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat after winning the party nominations held on May 9.
He garnered 12,957 votes to emerge victorious, while Paul Waiganjo finished second with 4,978 votes.
Ngotho previously contested for the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat on a UDA ticket in the 2022 General Election but finished second.
He will face UDA candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah and six other contenders from Jubilee, PNU, the National Liberal Party, Kenya Moja Movement, the Federal Party of Kenya, and the People’s Renaissance Movement.
Meanwhile, the united opposition has agreed to back a single candidate in the by-election following consultations among coalition partners.
In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, June 3, the coalition said its flag bearer would be selected through an independent scientific survey and credible opinion polls.
The Ol Kalou parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of former MP David Njuguna Kiaraho.
Kiaraho passed away on Sunday, March 29, while undergoing specialised treatment at The Nairobi Hospital.
