Students Injured in a Crash while Heading to Meru Music Festival

Several students were reported to have been injured on Friday morning after a road accident occurred while heading to Meru for the Music Festival.

The accident involved a bus carrying students and teachers from Salvation Army Imusutsu High School along the Kisumu-Busia highway in Sirwa Posta, Vihiga County.

According to reports, the incident occurred at around 7 am and took place after the bus, which was carrying students and teachers, lost control and overturned at the side of the road.

Moreover, reports suggest the bus was transporting the students and teachers from Vihiga County to Meru for the Kenya National Music Festival.

Images shared online showed the bus upside down with a broken windscreen, windows and damaged seats.

Following the accident, a rescue team made up mainly of residents quickly arrived at the scene and began removing those trapped inside the wreckage.

As of publication time, the exact number of injuries remained unclear.

The accident comes just hours after eight other people died in a separate road crash in the Monderat area of Naivasha, Nakuru County.

The Nakuru accident occurred on the evening of Thursday, August 7, involving a freight train and a company bus that collided at a level crossing, killing the 8 people on the spot.
