Moses Wetang’ula has officially declared the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat vacant.
The announcement, made on Wednesday, April 22, comes nearly a month after the death of the area Member of Parliament, David Njuguna Kiaraho.
Kiaraho died on Sunday, March 29, while receiving specialised treatment at The Nairobi Hospital.

The vacancy has been declared in accordance with constitutional and electoral provisions governing the loss of a parliamentary seat following the death of a sitting member.
Following the declaration, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission is expected to announce the timeline for a by-election to fill the vacant seat.
Elsewhere, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) has announced plans to field a candidate in the upcoming Ol Kalou by-election.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, April 21, the party’s Secretary General, Hezron Obaga, said DCP will conduct internal nominations to identify a suitable flagbearer.
He emphasized that the process would be transparent and aimed at selecting a strong contender for the race.
Obaga also indicated that the party is prepared to compete against the Jubilee Party if it decides to field a candidate, noting that political rivalry is a key pillar of a functioning democracy.
He added that the by-election will offer voters in Ol Kalou an opportunity to choose their preferred representative, stressing that the final decision ultimately rests with the electorate.
Obaga further stated that past cooperation between the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) and the Jubilee Party fell short of expectations, citing the Isiolo by-election and lack of support in the Narok Town ward contest.
He emphasized that DCP will now pursue an independent path, focusing on strengthening the party and offering voters a distinct alternative in future elections.
