Somali Journalist Abdalle Mumin Wins 2025 Allard Prize for Integrity

Renowned Somali Journalist Abdalled Ahmed Mumin has been feted with the 2025 Allard Prize for International Integrity.

The award was presented at a ceremony in New York City, which is one of the world’s most prestigious awards recognizing courageous efforts in fighting corruption and promoting human rights.

The honour comes more than a decade after Mumin received international acclaim in 2013 when the journalist was awarded The Human Rights Award for International Photography in Germany.

“For over twenty years, I have put my life on the line for one belief: that journalism can expose corruption, demand accountability, and protect the rights of the voiceless. In Somalia, that belief isn’t just tested- it’s life-threatening. Tonight, I am deeply humbled to receive the Allard Prize award. It is not only a recognition of my work with the Somali Journalists Syndicate, but of the power of journalism to challenge kleptocracy, injustice and fear”, Mumin said in his acceptance speech.

The biennial award was established in 2012 by the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia to honour individuals and organisations who demonstrate exceptional courage and leadership in promoting transparency and accountability.
