Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has faulted President William Ruto’s leadership approach, questioning his priorities following recent exchanges with opposition leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
In a post on Friday, December 19, Sifuna criticized what he described as a self-centered mindset among leaders, arguing that genuine leadership should prioritize national interests and collective development over personal or regional considerations.
His remarks come amid an ongoing public dispute between President Ruto and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka over the prioritization of a road project near Musyoka’s home in Tseikuru, Kitui County.

The exchange began on Sunday, December 15, when President William Ruto criticized Kalonzo Musyoka during a church service in Kiambu, accusing him of opposing and undermining the government’s development agenda.
Ruto questioned Musyoka’s record on development, noting that despite serving in senior positions across multiple administrations, the road leading to his home in Tseikuru remains untarmacked.
The President argued that leaders who have failed to deliver development at the local level lack the credibility to challenge or dismiss the feasibility of his administration’s national transformation plans.
Kalonzo responded by accusing President Ruto of politicising a church service and disputed claims about his length of time in politics, saying his career spans about 40 years.
He defended his development record, saying he initiated the Kibwezi–Mutomo–Kitui–Mwingi–Tseikuru–Maua road project while serving as Vice President.
President Ruto on Tuesday rejected the claim, insisting the road was built after 2013 during his administration with support from former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
