The Social Health Authority (SHA) has suspended M.P. Shah Hospital from its panel of contracted healthcare providers, temporarily preventing beneficiaries from accessing services at the facility using the national medical insurance scheme.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, June 24, SHA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mercy Mwangangi confirmed that the hospital is under investigation, although she did not disclose the nature of the probe.
According to the Authority, the suspension took effect on Tuesday, June 23, and will remain in force until the investigations are concluded.

The decision affects services offered under the Primary Healthcare Fund (PHCF), the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), the Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness Fund (ECCIF), and the Public Officers Medical Scheme Fund (POMSF).
Despite the suspension, SHA clarified that patients who had already been admitted to M.P. Shah Hospital before the suspension took effect will continue receiving treatment until they complete their current episode of care and are formally discharged.
However, beneficiaries seeking new admissions, follow-up appointments, outpatient services or any other treatment covered under SHA during the suspension period have been advised to seek care at other healthcare facilities accredited by the Authority.
SHA also encouraged affected patients requiring referrals or assistance in accessing alternative facilities to contact the Authority through its toll-free support line for guidance on continuity of care.
The Authority thanked beneficiaries for their patience and cooperation, assuring the public that the temporary suspension is part of its mandate to uphold accountability, quality standards and proper service delivery across all contracted healthcare providers.
Dr. Mwangangi further reiterated SHA’s commitment to ensuring Kenyans continue accessing safe, quality and accountable healthcare services as investigations into the hospital proceed.
