Senator Seeks DCI Probe Into Kalonzo’s Remarks on Ogolla’s Death

Nandi County Senator Samson Cherargei has called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to record a statement from Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka over his recent comments on the death of former Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla.

In a statement on Monday, December 22, Cherargei accused Kalonzo of desperation and politicizing the Kenya Defence Forces, describing his remarks as an insult to the families of the deceased.

The senator urged the DCI to ensure Kalonzo is held accountable for what he termed reckless statements that could incite public unrest.

Cherargei defended the military’s handling of the matter, noting that the Kenya Defence Forces had issued a comprehensive report detailing the causes of the incident and outlining the recommended way forward.

Cherargei urged Kalonzo to channel his energy into advocating for more resources for the KDF and police to upgrade their aircraft, instead of making provocative remarks.

The senator’s statement follows Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka reiterating his view that General Francis Ogolla’s death was not accidental during an interview on Sunday, December 21.

Kalonzo questioned the circumstances surrounding the incident, particularly the decision to transport the Commander of the Kenya Defence Forces in an ageing aircraft to inspect a school project in a bandit-prone region.

He also cautioned President William Ruto against interfering with military protocols, specifically the Tonje Rules that govern succession within the armed forces.

General Ogolla died in a military helicopter crash in April 2024 in the Elgeyo Marakwet area of Kenya.
