Senator Methu Rules Out UDA Exit Following DCP Secretary-General Role

Nyandarua Senator John Methu has claimed that he will not be resigning from the UDA Party, following his appointment as the Secretary-General of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).

Speaking at the DCP Headquarters, Methu revealed that he will continue holding his senate position despite him being appointed DCP Secretary-General.

According to Methu, he draws inspiration from President William Ruto prior to the 2022 General Election.

“I know people from UDA have started arguing that when I am secretary-general designate of a party, I am required to resign from my current party. Much as you want to give us advice, may I also remind you that it is part of history – William Ruto was the party leader designate of UDA for two years, yet he was elected Deputy President under Jubilee Party”, Methu said.

According to reports, Kenyan laws says that any individual who leaves the party under which he or she was elected onmust resign and run for that elective office under the new party.

Therefore, Methu’s appointment may reportedly trigger a legal battle with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party.

This comes after DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua said that the party lawyers were working on possible legal proceedings that may arise.

“Methu will start acting today as Secretary General-designate and be the spokesperson of DCP on all matters starting today. In the fullness of time, his name will be forwarded to the registrar of political parties so that he is registered as the duly appointed SG of DCP”, Gachagua said.
