Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has questioned why Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is still contesting his removal as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General.
In a statement on Friday, July 3, Salasya said he had initially believed Sifuna was ready to pursue a new political direction after publicly opposing the government’s broad-based political arrangement.
According to Salasya, Sifuna’s participation in the Linda Mwananchi movement had signalled a willingness to break away from ODM and champion a new political cause focused on the interests of ordinary Kenyans.

However, he criticized the Nairobi Senator for challenging his removal from the Secretary-General position, arguing that ODM’s National Executive Committee (NEC) had already made a final decision after adopting the recommendations of the party’s Internal Disputes Resolution Committee (IDRC).
Salasya’s remarks come days after Sifuna clarified that his legal challenge is not aimed at retaining the Secretary-General position but at ensuring the party adheres to its constitution and internal procedures.
The Nairobi Senator maintained that ODM has several capable leaders who can serve as Secretary-General, insisting that his objection is to the process used in his removal rather than the outcome itself.
ODM announced Sifuna’s removal on June 22 after the NEC unanimously adopted the recommendations of the IDRC, which had been tasked with investigating a complaint lodged against him.
