Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has issued a 15-day extension for Nairobi residents to make land rate payments.
The County boss declared that the new deadline set for April is April 15.
“Good news, Nairobi! The land rate payment deadline has been extended to April 15, 2025. Pay today, no penalties!” the notice read.
He urged residents to take the opportunity and pay their pending bills without incurring any penalties.

According to the Nairobi Governor, the measure will ensure ease to financial pressure on residents while improving revenue collection for essential services.
“We understand the economic challenges Nairobian are facing and we want to give them ample time to settle their land rates without penalties. This extension ensures fairness while encouraging compliance,” Sakaja said. ,
Initially, the deadline for land rate payments is March 31 each year and failure to pay the debts results in interest charges of 3 per cent per month on the outstanding amount.
The Nairobi City County Government Finance Act 2022 outlines that landowners pay land rates equivalent to 0.115 per cent of the assessed value of their land.
