Ruto Under Pressure? Kalonzo Says Gachagua Confrontation Has Shaken President

Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Friday, April 10, claimed that President William Ruto has been unsettled following a direct confrontation with his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking in Masinga, Kalonzo said the President had struggled to respond to sharp criticism directed at him by Gachagua during a memorial service for the late Ol Kalau MP David Kiaraho.

During the event, Gachagua openly addressed issues surrounding his impeachment, his fallout with the President, and remarks labeling him a tribal leader, delivering his message in a firm and uncompromising tone.

Kalonzo praised Gachagua for the bold approach, suggesting the encounter had left a lasting impact on the President.

Gachagua, in turn, appeared to embrace the support and went on to sustain his criticism, dismissing some of the President’s earlier remarks.

The DCP leader said he was determined to intensify political pressure on President William Ruto in the Mount Kenya region, vowing to deny him political ground.

He argued that support for the President in the region had waned, alleging that many attendees at his events were motivated by facilitation rather than genuine backing.

Gachagua further claimed that despite such efforts, residents still showed him strong support when he addressed the gathering, which he said contrasted with the reception given to the President and other leaders present, including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.

He added that the situation created an awkward moment for the leadership at the event.

The incident has since drawn criticism from various leaders.

Many have accused Gachagua and his ally of disrespecting the President and the office, leading to their exclusion from subsequent requiem and burial ceremonies.
