President William Ruto has announced that the long-awaited dualling of the Rironi–Naivasha–Mau Summit Highway will officially commence on Friday, November 28.
In a statement on Monday, November 17, the President revealed that he had held a meeting with senior officials from China Communications Construction Company (CCCC).
The firm’s subsidiary, China Roads and Bridges Corporation (CRBC), has been tasked with executing the 170-kilometre expansion project.

Ruto highlighted that the start of construction marks a major milestone for the Northern Corridor, a critical route linking Nairobi to western Kenya.
The upgrade is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion, reduce delays, improve safety, and boost trade along the busy highway.
The President also noted that an additional major section of the corridor will undergo expansion concurrently, signalling the government’s broader commitment to improving national infrastructure.
The Head of State further credited Kenya’s strong infrastructure progress to robust relations with China, and pointed to past successes resulting from these partnerships.
