Ruto Insists Broad-Based Govt Has Not Disadvantaged Mt Kenya Region

President William Ruto has once again defended the formation of the broad-based government, saying the inclusion of former opposition figures was intended to serve the country’s greater good.

Speaking on Saturday, January 17, during a meeting with UDA grassroots leaders, the president said the move was aimed at fostering national unity and ensuring all Kenyans are involved in nation-building.

He emphasized that the partnership with ODM was not designed to sideline Mt Kenya or any other region, but rather to promote inclusivity across the country.

Ruto also addressed claims by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has accused him of betraying Mt Kenya by working with leaders who did not support him in the 2022 elections.

The president dismissed the criticism, reiterating that his priority is to unite all parts of Kenya and ensure every region benefits from the country’s progress.

According to the Head of State, development projects in Mt Kenya are ongoing and more will be launched, insisting the region has not lost anything under the broad-based government.

He noted that infrastructure projects will be implemented equally across the country, including Nyeri, Kisumu, and the Coast.

Ruto went on to reaffirm his ties with Mt Kenya residents, saying he has maintained a long-standing relationship with the region dating back to his time as a Cabinet minister and later as deputy president.

He dismissed claims that his political roots in the region were recent, stating that support from Mt Kenya voters shows they consider him a trusted ally.
