Ruto Congratulates Ol Kalou MP-Elect Sammy Ngotho, Urges Him to Focus on Service

President William Ruto has urged Ol Kalou MP-elect Sammy Kamau Ngotho of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) to focus on serving the people following his victory in the July 16 parliamentary by-election.

Speaking on Friday, July 17, the President acknowledged the outcome of the election as the will of the people and said the newly elected legislator should now concentrate on delivering on the mandate entrusted to him by voters.

Ruto maintained that all elected leaders are ultimately judged by their performance, adding that Kenyans expect leaders to have a clear record of service, sound ideas and practical plans to improve the country.

The President also called on leaders to put aside political differences after the election, stressing that the priority should be improving the lives of citizens rather than engaging in political rivalry, tribalism or divisive rhetoric.

Ngotho won the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election in a landslide, securing more than 80 per cent of the votes cast to defeat United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Samuel Muchina.

Following the victory, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua described the outcome as a major political statement by the Mount Kenya region, arguing that it reflected growing support for DCP.

Gachagua claimed the result signalled a shift in the region’s political landscape and warned that President Ruto could face a similar outcome in the 2027 General Election if current trends persist.

He further said the victory had strengthened DCP’s position in the Mount Kenya region and urged local leaders to join the party.

The Ol Kalou MP-elect has since received congratulatory messages from leaders across the political divide, including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, former Chief Justice David Maraga, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and several leaders allied to DCP, the United Opposition and UDA.
