President William Ruto on Tuesday, March 24, announced that he and Governor James Orengo had agreed to work together despite their political differences.
Speaking in Siaya during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Isenge Pier, Ruto said the temporary truce between them would help unlock development opportunities for the region.
The President noted that although Orengo is aligned with the ‘Wantam’ political camp, the ultimate decision on political direction rests with the electorate, and for now, their focus would remain on service delivery.

Orengo, while maintaining his distinct political stance, formally welcomed the President to Siaya County and acknowledged the importance of cooperation for the benefit of residents.
His address at the launch was brief after sections of the crowd grew restless, chanting slogans associated with the President and rival political camps.
Earlier, William Ruto had maintained that he was not intimidated by either the United Opposition or factions pushing the ‘Wantam’ narrative, expressing confidence in his prospects at the ballot.
The President was accompanied by Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, Treasury CS John Mbadi, and several local Members of Parliament during the visit.
The event marked the first joint public appearance between Ruto and James Orengo since tensions escalated over claims by the governor that some of his aides had been arrested ahead of the Nyanza tour.
Orengo has consistently maintained his opposition stance, calling for political change and arguing that waiting until 2027 is unnecessary.
He has also previously levelled sharp criticism at the President and questioned his leadership, at one point suggesting grounds for impeachment.
