Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has criticised Alego Usonga MP Sam Atandi over his remarks regarding the planned Kisumu Linda Mwananchi rally.
In a statement issued on Friday, April 24, Odinga described the comments as inappropriate for a public leader and inconsistent with democratic freedoms.
She warned that such statements risk setting a dangerous precedent, emphasizing that Kisumu should not be portrayed as a centre for political unrest or used to justify restrictions on lawful political activity.

The response follows MP Atandi’s earlier remarks in which he indicated that the rally would not be allowed to proceed in Kisumu, and dismissed the Linda Mwananchi group as illegitimate.
Atandi maintained that the proposed political rally in Kisumu should only take place with the full support of local residents, stressing that its fate ultimately depends on whether the community is willing to host it.
At the same time, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja reminded the organisers of the Linda Mwananchi rally that they share responsibility for ensuring the event remains peaceful and secure.
While appearing before the Senate Defence Committee on Thursday, April 23, Kanja urged the organisers to adhere strictly to the law and work closely with security agencies.
He further pointed them to the provisions of the Constitution of Kenya regarding the right to peaceful assembly.
The IG assured leaders and organisers of the Linda Mwananchi rally that adequate security measures would be in place to guarantee a peaceful event in Kisumu.
He emphasized that the gathering would proceed without interference, noting that authorities would collaborate with organisers to maintain order and safety, while affirming that members of the public are free to attend.
