Revealed: Reason behind Kobbie Mainoo’s demand to leave Manchester United

Manchester United’s rising star Kobbie Mainoo is reportedly growing disillusioned with life at Old Trafford, following a string of matches where he’s been left glued to the bench.

According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, the 20-year-old midfielder is “not happy to sit on the bench and play zero minutes,” despite proving his talent under multiple managers.

Mainoo’s frustration reached a boiling point after manager Ruben Amorim opted not to use him in United’s recent draw against Fulham, instead favoring Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes—even as Fernandes struggled to make an impact.

Amorim later defended the decision, stating Mainoo is “competing with Bruno,” but fans and pundits alike questioned the logic, given Mainoo’s versatility and composure on the ball.

Romano confirmed that while Mainoo is disappointed, there are currently no active negotiations or bids for his departure. However, the player’s camp has made it clear they would prefer a loan move to secure regular minutes and continue his development.

United, on the other hand, are reluctant to let him go, believing he has a vital role to play this season.

With the transfer window closing soon, the situation remains tense. Talks between Mainoo and the club are expected to take place within days to clarify his future.

Whether United can convince their academy gem to stay and fight for his place—or risk losing him to a rival—will be a defining moment in their youth development strategy.
