Manchester United have officially announced the signing of Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos from Chelsea, making him the first permanent arrival under head coach Michael Carrick as the club begins preparations for the 2026/27 season.
The 22-year-old completed a reported £50 million move to Old Trafford after impressing in the Premier League with his composure, defensive awareness and ability to drive the ball forward from midfield. Santos has signed a five-year contract, with the deal also including performance-related add-ons.
Speaking after completing the transfer, Santos described joining Manchester United as “an incredible feeling” and said he is excited to work under Michael Carrick, whom he believes is the ideal coach to help him reach the next stage of his career.

“Everything about Manchester United is special. It is an incredible feeling to join a club that some of my biggest idols have represented. As a midfielder, I am really excited to have the opportunity to learn from Michael Carrick,” Santos said.
Carrick welcomed the arrival of the Brazilian, who becomes the first signing of his tenure after taking over as United’s head coach earlier this year.
The former United midfielder is rebuilding the squad with a focus on young, technically gifted players capable of competing for major honours.
Santos leaves Chelsea after developing into one of Brazil’s brightest midfield prospects. United believe his energy, passing range and tactical intelligence will strengthen a midfield that is being reshaped ahead of the new campaign.
The Brazilian is expected to link up with his new teammates during pre-season as Manchester United continue preparations for their return to UEFA Champions League football under Carrick.
