RB Leipzig scored in the fifth minute of injury time to prevent Bayern Munich from securing a 34th German league title after a dramatic 3-3 draw at the Red Bull Arena.
Yussuf Poulsen found the net with virtually the last kick of the game, denying Bayern the three points needed to reclaim the title from Bayer Leverkusen. Despite this setback, Bayern holds a nine-point lead and a goal difference of +30 over second-placed Leverkusen and now requires just one more point to mathematically secure the championship.
Vincent Kompany’s team fought back from being two goals down at halftime to take the lead with goals from Eric Dier, Michael Olise, and Leroy SanĂ©. England captain Harry Kane, who was serving a one-match suspension, had made his way down to the pitch as Bayern prepared to celebrate their first league title since 2023.
However, Poulsen’s late goal gave Leipzig a share of the points. Benjamin Sesko, 21, opened the scoring for Leipzig with a superb long-range finish using the outside of his boot, and Lukas Klostermann doubled the home side’s advantage with a header just before halftime.
Bayern responded quickly, scoring two goals within 46 seconds—first through former Tottenham defender Dier and then through ex-Crystal Palace winger Olise.
Bayern appeared to have secured the victory six minutes before the end when Germany winger SanĂ© curled a stunning effort into the bottom corner, but Poulsen’s goal in the 94th minute, where he chipped Jonas Urbig, delayed Bayern’s title celebrations.
Kompany’s side will be crowned champions if Leverkusen, who has a game in hand, fails to beat SC Freiburg on Sunday at 16:30 BST. Should Leverkusen win, Bayern will have the opportunity to claim the title at the Allianz Arena against Borussia Mönchengladbach on May 9.
