Raphael Tuju Protests Alleged Illegal Auction of His Karen Estate

Drama unfolded at Dari Business Park in Karen, Nairobi, after auctioneers accompanied by security personnel and a group of individuals entered the property owned by former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju.

The incident, which has been described as a forceful eviction attempt on the night of Wednesday, March 11, saw Tuju confront the group and demand that they leave the premises.

Shortly before the confrontation, several youths riding motorbikes reportedly gathered at the main gate of the property, restricting access to the compound and heightening tensions in the area.

According to Tuju, he was caught off guard by the group’s presence, explaining that those who entered the premises claimed they were acting on behalf of individuals who had allegedly purchased the property following an attempted auction.

He maintained that the ownership dispute remains the subject of ongoing court proceedings.

The confrontation occurred just days after the High Court cleared the way for the auction of the Karen property in an effort to recover a debt of more than Ksh1.9 billion that dates back over a decade.

After the ruling, which was delivered on March 9, the former Cabinet Secretary indicated that he would not vacate the Karen property, arguing that the decision was unfair and signaling his intention to challenge it through the legal process.

Tuju further insisted that any effort to remove him from the property by force would amount to intimidation, maintaining that the matter has not yet been conclusively resolved in court.

In 2024, the former Cabinet Secretary took legal action to block the auction of his Karen property as well as another along Ngong Road, following earlier court rulings that went against him.

Previously, in 2023, the Supreme Court dismissed his appeal, ruling that he had failed to provide sufficient evidence to support his case.
