Senator Oburu Odinga clarified that Raila Junior’s installation was purely a family affair and not a political appointment.

He emphasized that the role pertains only to the leadership of the immediate family home.

Oburu further noted that he continues to serve as the chairperson of the wider Odinga family.

Senator Oburu further explained that, according to Luo customs, the installation ceremony traditionally takes place four nights after burial.

During the ceremony, Raila Odinga Junior was symbolically shaved by one of his grandmothers before being dressed in traditional attire and presented with a Luo shield and spear emblems of authority and leadership within the home.

The event was attended by members of the Odinga family, relatives, community elders, and several political leaders.

The late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga passed away on Wednesday, October 15, after suffering a cardiac arrest during a morning walk in India.

He was laid to rest on Sunday, October 19, at his ancestral home in Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, Bondo, Siaya County.

He was buried with his signature hat and fly whisk, iconic symbols that defined his political identity and legacy.
